Fire Protection and Life Safety
IU South Bend must adhere to many life safety and fire protection codes at the state and local level. This involves conducting fire drills and inspections of fire extinguishers, and sprinkler control valves.
Ensuring a safe campus involves cooperation from all staff, faculty and students in keeping egress lanes clear, and not blocking fire extinguishers, pull boxes, evacuation maps, and exit lights. Complying with occupant load capacities is another area of importance. If you are holding a special event and are unsure of an area's capacity, contact the Environmental Health & Safety Manager for clarification at 520-4575. Following these rules will minimize the likelihood of harm to personnel and damage to property.
