Tornado Awareness

Please remember that a tornado watch simply means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. A tornado warning means that a tornado has actually been sighted. If a tornado is sighted in our area, IU South Bend Police will advise you to take shelter immediately.

IU South Bend building safe locations are:

    • Administration Building— University Center basement halls
    • Fine Arts Building—Restrooms, rooms 120, 130, and 140 Northside Hall—Basement halls
    • Purdue Technology Building—Restrooms and interior hallways, rooms 120 and 152
    • Riverside Hall—Room 106 and hallways
    • Schurz Library—Ground floor tunnel and lounge area, rooms 005 and 009 Wiekamp Hall—First floor restrooms, room 1001, 1105, 1125, 1205,1225 and basement. (basement entrance located next to parking garage entrance)
      Student Activity Center      —Lower level locker rooms
    • Education & Arts Building - First floor restrooms rooms 1010, 1229, & 1231
    • River Crossing Community Building - Restrooms
    • Elkhart Center - Basement, 1st floor restrooms
